Hi! I'm Ben Meyer.

Beginning 5/1/15, our newest location in Summerville will be open for lessons, classes, summer camps, and recording! We welcome musicians of all skill levels to come together to learn, perform, and jam with each other.  Anyone can learn to sing or play an instrument. We will show you how.

meet ben meyer, academy director

Hailing from the Washington, D.C. area, Ben has been a musician nearly all his life beginning with percussion lessons at nine years old. After participating in both public school and community music programs throughout his childhood, 

Ben attended West Virginia University graduating with a BM in Music Education in 2000. Continuing a focus on world music, drum set and classical percussion studies, Ben next attended Miami University graduating with honors to earn his MM in percussion performance in 2003.

After teaching steel band and West African drumming from 2003-2008 in the Norfolk, VA area, Ben relocated to his current home of Charleston, SC to teach band, steel band and guitar within Charleston County School District. Ben is now the Academy Director for the Summerville campus of Black Tie Music Academy in addition to working as a commercial audio engineer, sound and lighting consultant, recording engineer, bassist, percussionist and is a member of the Summerville High School Marching Band staff. 

Ben lives happily with his wife, Kelly, and their animal friends in Summerville, SC and is a staff musician at Ashley Ridge Church.
