Rev.  David  Dubay

Picture
When David was 7 years old his parents gave him a very functional but plastic guitar.  Within a week of receiving  that guitar along with a Mel Bay Guitar book, he began playing the song Polly Wolly doodle all the Day non-stop for months and then learned a few other songs.  In Junior High school he realized that girls liked guys who played guitar so he asked his parents for a better guitar and, after a year or so of guitar lessons, he launched himself into the world of musical performance with the songs "Stairway to Heaven" and the complete James Taylor anthology firmly memorized.  By this time he had also been forced into 7 years of piano lessons so by 9th grade he had a basic knowledge of music theory (the language, science, and mathematics of music) and how to keep his guitar pick from falling into the guitar's sound hole during a performance.  Also in Junior High, David began singing in his school chorus and performing in a number of local musicals.  Later at the College of Charleston, David received a degree in Vocal Performance and Theater.  He also studied Liturgical music at Kings College, Cambridge (UK) and traveled the country for many years leading music for youth conferences.

David is now a published song writer and performer.  He is a  classical trained singer but knows how to rock.  He plays the guitar, ukelele, piano, bass guitar, mandolin, banjo, and kazoo.   He believes that the biggest failure of modern music instruction is that it can be tedious and boring.  He'd like to change that.    The link below will take you to a recording of his performance of a piece from Handel's Messiah with members of the South Carolina Philharmonic.   http://tinyurl.com/mfklufy
