Beginning piano: In this weekly one-hour class, students will learn the foundations of music. Topics include learning the names of the notes on the piano and staff, musical terms and symbols, and playing simple songs in “C position.” No experience is required. Students must be at least 5 years old.
Beginning guitar: This weekly one-hour class explores the foundations of great guitar playing. Topics include learning the parts of the guitar, basic theory, two strumming patterns, intro to fingerstyle playing and six (6) chords. Musical repertoire is selected by teacher and student. No experience is required. Students must be at least 6 years old.
Group Chorus: This is a great fun way to spend a Friday afternoon. We'll spend time learning everything from gospel to Journey to current arrangements of today's radio hits. We'll even sing in parts and students will have the opportunity to try out for solos! Once we establish a base of great repertoire, we'll perform around DI and at local venues.
Acoustic Guitar: Some people just prefer playing an acoustic guitar….I understand! This weekly, one-hour class covers the acoustic guitar from finger-style to flat-picking. While learning fundamental music theory and chords, we’ll explore music from some of the greatest acoustic guitarists. Musicians of all experience levels are welcome.
All Things Rhythm: What’s better at the end of a day than beating a drum? People have felt this way for centuries… and so came the drum circle. Once a week for an hour we will gather to explore percussion and hand drumming techniques, to learn improvisational drumming methods, and to most importantly have fun playing drums! All ages are welcome….no prior experience is necessary!
Drum set Class: In this weekly, one hour class, students will learn the basics of solo and ensemble drumming. Topics will cover: Basic grooves, fills, drum tuning, set-up, soloing, and more. Students in this class will have the opportunity to perform individually and in joint ensembles with musicians from other classes at BTMA. No prior musical experience is required!
Riffology 101: Riffology will explore the riffs importance in rock and roll music. Students will learn to play actual riffs from bands like Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Metallica (just to name a few) in a group jam setting. This is an intermediate class, some knowledge of the guitar is required.
Song Writing: In this class students will learn to write a song by analyzing
the work of other famous song writers like Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, and Mumford and Sons. We will cover lyric writing, point of view, and instrumentation. Furthermore students will have the opportunity to perform their piece at final Friday of each month at our “BTMA Open Mic”. There are no age limitations on this class, also no knowledge of an instrument is required just preferred. Remember, anyone can write a song!
Lead Guitar: Students in this class will learn the basics of lead guitar. Penatonic and major scales will be a big part, but learning to identify and play melodic lines on the guitar is our goal. This is an intermediate class. Guitar playing ability is a must here.
Recording Basics: Learn the fundamentals of digital recording and create
your own song as a final project! A recording interface, condenser microphone
and all the necessary stands and cables are provided. Students will need to
provide a laptop or tablet.
DCI Style Drum Line: This form of drumming focuses on precision technique
and exacting ensemble performance. Snare drum, tonal bass drums, multi-tenors
and cymbals will all be included in a disciplined group setting. Do you have
what it takes?
Basic Music Theory: Ever wonder why certain chords just "work" together or
what songwriters are thinking about when they write chord progressions? Here is
your answer! Basic scales, modes, chords, chord functions and harmony will be
included along with ear-training exercises to make you a stronger musician!
Final Friday Coffeehouse (Open Mic Night) will occur on the last Friday of each month and will showcase BTMA students and other local performers in a relaxed lounge-like atmosphere. Students will have the opportunity to practice their performance skills onstage in front of a warm and receptive audience. Hot chocolate and coffee will be served. The next Coffeehouse is Friday, June 28th, at 7pm.
